SARS eFiling Login Help
A plain-English checklist for SARS eFiling login problems, forgotten usernames, forgotten passwords, browser issues and next steps.
Last updated: 19 May 2026
Start with the simplest checks
If SARS eFiling will not let you in, first separate a login problem from a filing problem. A login problem is usually about username, password, OTP, browser, profile access or system availability. A filing problem usually appears after login, when you try to open a return, notice or tax type.
- Confirm you are using the official SARS eFiling login page.
- Check whether the username is accepted before working on the password.
- Try a current browser, stable connection and private window if the page behaves strangely.
- Save screenshots of error wording if you need to contact SARS.
Forgotten username or password
SARS eFiling provides forgotten username and forgotten password links from the login flow. If you have lost both, retrieve the username first and then reset the password. Use the security contact details that SARS has on record for the profile.
Do not guess repeatedly if the same error appears. Repeated failed attempts can slow down the recovery process and make it harder to work out which detail is wrong.
When the page does not load properly
Browser and connection issues can look like eFiling account issues. Try refreshing once, switching networks, disabling browser extensions that block scripts, and using a different current browser. If the SARS site is under maintenance, wait and try again rather than repeatedly submitting the same login details.
Profile and security contact checks
Some recovery steps depend on your security contact details. If the OTP channel is old, inaccessible or incorrect, use the SARS profile-management guidance and official support channels to update details. Keep proof of any identity verification or contact-detail change request.
When to contact SARS
Contact SARS or use official appointment/support channels when you cannot access the OTP channel, the profile belongs to an old tax practitioner or employer, identity verification fails, or the login issue blocks an urgent filing deadline. Avoid giving login credentials to anyone who is not properly authorised to help you.
