SARS Branch and Appointment Checklist
A checklist for unresolved SARS eFiling profile access problems before calling SARS or booking a branch appointment.
Last updated: 19 May 2026
When an appointment may be needed
Many SARS tasks can be handled on eFiling, but an appointment or Contact Centre interaction may be needed when security contact details are forgotten, biometric verification fails, representative access is broken or profile recovery cannot be completed online.
Prepare before contacting SARS
- Tax number or notice of registration if available.
- Identity document or passport details.
- Current and previous email addresses or cellphone numbers linked to the profile.
- Company, trust or representative documents where relevant.
- Screenshots or exact wording of the eFiling error.
Questions to answer clearly
Be ready to explain whether the issue is login access, OTP delivery, old practitioner access, tax type transfer, bank verification or a filing deadline. Clear wording helps SARS route the query correctly.
After the appointment
Save the case number or appointment confirmation, note the official guidance received, and test profile access after any change. If a filing deadline is close, check whether returns, notices and supporting-document requests are visible after access is restored.
Avoid unsafe shortcuts
Do not give your eFiling password to an unauthorised helper, and do not use unofficial websites that ask for login details. Use SARS official support, eBooking or a properly authorised tax practitioner.
Sources to verify
Primary SARS reference: SARS eFiling features, including guidance to call the SARS Contact Centre or book an appointment where security contact details or biometric verification block access.
